The Southern Cross Broadcasting Group is bound by the National Privacy Principles outlined in Schedule 3 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and is therefore subject to obligations relating to the collection, use, disclosure, accuracy, security, accessibility and export of personal information.

The Privacy Act exempts acts and practices engaged in by media organisations in the course of journalism. The Southern Cross Broadcasting Group is committed to the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance Code of Ethics.

The Southern Cross Broadcasting Group is committed to educating its employees on information privacy obligations and compliance. This Privacy Policy Statement sets the policies of the Southern Cross Broadcasting Group with respect to personal information it collects, uses and discloses.

Collection of information

Companies in the Southern Cross Broadcasting Group may collect personal information in numerous circumstances, including:

  • receiving competition entry forms and telephone entries;
  • fielding talk-back radio calls and other reports of public concern;
  • receiving applications for advertising;
  • in order to provide electronic programme guides requested by viewers; and
  • conducting fundraising events (eg telethons).

 

The personal information collected and stored usually depends upon the circumstances but will often include an individual's name, contacts details and details of the purpose for the individual contacting the Group.

In most cases, information will be collected directly from the individual concerned. Where it is collected through a third party, we shall endeavour to ensure you are made aware of this.

Disclosure of information by Southern Cross Broadcasting

Companies in the Southern Cross Broadcasting Group will treat personal information they collect with the strictest confidence and will only disclose that information in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988. They may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

  • to a contractor under an outsourcing arrangement but only where the contractor is committed to meeting the same privacy obligations as those binding on the Southern Cross Broadcasting Group;
  • to other companies in the Southern Cross Broadcasting Group;
  • to operators of competitions for processing applications and delivering prizes; and
     
  • in accordance with any consent given to Southern Cross Broadcasting or where Southern Cross Broadcasting is compelled or authorised by law.
